Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa will supply 79 of its typhoon-class onshore wind turbines for Japan’s 339.7MW Dohoku wind farm cluster.
Currently on track to become Japan’s largest wind farm cluster and consisting of four projects, Dohoku is being developed by Eurus Energy, a joint venture between Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Tokyo Electric Power.
Siemens Gamesa will also provide technical field assistance for construction and commissioning on the projects, with full commissioning expected in 2023.
The company has installed 520MW of capacity in Japan so far, with 353MW under maintenance and operation, and has established a local set-up to service the Japanese market.
The 4.3MW typhoon type certified onshore turbine has been specifically designed to accommodate the very high wind speeds found in Japan, including typhoons.
